Taiwan is located in the middle of the Asia – Pacific region and has one of the rapidly growing economy. Taiwan’s location offers an excellent route for foreign companies into the emerging health care markets of the Asian continent. Taiwanese manufacturers, distributors, and investors are very keen to navigate mainland Chinese business opportunities because of linguistic and historical links. Taiwan and mainland China have an agreement on the mutual recognition of clinical research and trial. Taiwan’s friendly atmosphere and reliable business environment provide the potential for strong partnerships.

Taiwan’s government has put forward the main goal of developing 80 new niche medical devices by 2025, but there is a general recognition that foreign expertise will be key to reaching that aim. Particular joint Research and Development opportunities present in Taiwan’s ICT strengths, as Taiwan succeeds in hardware development and has a great supply chain, however, lacks software professionals to make applications successful and user-friendly.

Therefore, the UK Science & Innovation Network (SIN) Taipei and the Department of International Trade (DIT) have organised the 3rd Medical Technology trade mission to Taiwan in the late 2017 to help British companies and organisations to export, engage investment and find R&D partners. Rightangled has joined a delegation for this trade mission on a 3- day tour programme. We have connected with a number of distributors, venture capitalists, large ICT and manufacturing companies with a strong interest in healthcare, MedTech and university hospitals. This was a great opportunity to introduce, showcase and promote our company and our DNA testing service to potential customers and partners in Taiwan.
