Your overall wellbeing can be massively affected by hormones as the levels vary in potency, which is why our test runs an in-depth analysis to see whether your levels are balanced.
Testosterone is responsible for the development of male physical characteristics and the production of sperm. In women, it is converted to oestrogen. The majority of testosterone is inactive and bound to SHBG. The rest is either bound to another protein, albumin, or circulates freely in the body.
Measuring free testosterone examines the amount of testosterone that is readily available for your body to use. Your testosterone levels can fluctuate from conditions which affect the pituitary gland or hypothalamus, as well as genetic and chronic conditions — PCOS in women is also known to affect testosterone levels.
